The objective of this application example: to ship palletized goods safely, efficiently, and without single-use cardboard boxes in collapsible reusable transport packaging. The challenge was to develop returnable packaging that is not only suitable for store deliveries or freight shipping, but is also sturdy, reusable, and cost-effective.
Our solution: Affordable collapsible reusable transport packaging
Our specially designed reusable transport packaging in Euro size is the perfect solution for cost-effective B2B shipping without single-use boxes in the freight forwarding industry. The box is stackable and can be folded flat for efficient return shipping. Thanks to its sturdy construction, it offers optimal protection for the shipped goods—even with frequent use. In practical tests under real-world conditions, this transport packaging has proven to be extremely durable and resilient.
The systematic use of this reusable transport packaging allows companies to avoid large quantities of single-use packaging. Companies significantly reduce their packaging waste and improve their carbon footprint with each cycle compared to single-use boxes—without compromising on protection or logistical feasibility.
Return & Reuse
After shipment, the empty transport packaging remains at the receiving point, where it is folded up and gathered in collection containers. It is returned in this condition via existing logistics flows or through targeted pickups. The boxes are then inspected, cleaned, and put back into circulation either by the shipping company itself or by us and our partner workshops for people with disabilities.
An integrated label holder ensures that shipping labels can be easily applied and removed without residue—no tape, no residue. The packaging in the FEFCO 0216 design with tuck-in bottom and lid can be closed without using tape, which makes reprocessing simple and efficient. Alternatively, there is a reusable FEFCO 0201 design that can be integrated into existing processes without any changes and simply replaces cardboard packaging.
Tamper-proof with seal stickers
To ensure the integrity of the shipment during transport, seal stickers can be used as an option. These are applied in such a way that they are visibly damaged when the box is opened, leaving a “VOID OPEN” message. This provides transparency and security for all parties involved in the supply chain.
Economically compelling
The use of reusable packaging also makes economic sense: While the initial cost of reusable transport packaging is higher than that of single-use packaging, these costs are spread out over many usage cycles. Savings on packaging material are realized after just a few cycles. As a rule, the reusable solution in this concept becomes cheaper than the single-use product from the seventh use onward. In this concept, the packaging is designed for 40 cycles, with cost savings of more than 40%. Return costs were factored into this calculation.

A Systematic Approach to Reuse
Our reusable transport packaging is made entirely of polypropylene with 40 to 60% recycled content. It is designed for more than 40 uses in freight shipping, and at the end of its service life, we take it back and send it for recycling. At 40 cycles, one box replaces 40 single-use cardboard boxes—more than 97% fewer packaging units ending up as waste. With each cycle, its carbon footprint also improves compared to cardboard.
